With everyone spending much more time than usual at home, plenty of people are viewing their houses with a critical eye. Craft blogs are full of “lockdown ideas” to spruce up the house or finally finish that renovation project as quarantine continues. These ideas certainly keep people busy and improve the house in the process. But why stop with the inside?
Your backyard is just as important as the rest of your house, and if you’re staying home like most people currently are, you’ll be spending more time there than typical. Try adding a few custom touches for a backyard ambiance you’re sure to love! Here are just a few ideas.
In a big city like Houston, we’re surrounded by so many buildings and streets that it can be difficult to get in touch with nature. Why not bring nature to you with some colorful plants native to the Houston area? Flowers, vines, and even herbs or vegetable plants can provide a welcome touch of color and natural beauty in your urban backyard.
Night or evening gatherings need light to keep the party in full swing. Lights like wall-mounted lanterns or ceiling lights fit the bill, but why not dress things up a bit more? Outdoor string lights or fairy lights add a magical touch to your yard after sunset. Better yet, citronella candles help keep mosquitoes away while adding a soft ambient light to your outdoor living room. Experiment to find your favorite mood lighting configuration.
Do you miss telling ghost stories around the fire on a camping trip? Bring that experience to your backyard with a customized firepit. Choose from simple or elaborate designs to light the night and give you a memorable camping experience without leaving home.
Create a Luxurious Backyard Ambiance
Your backyard should be your ultimate hangout spot, completely customized to your preferences and needs. This is especially true now that you’re spending more time at home than usual. Make sure your stay-at-home period is an enjoyable one!
Houston summers present homeowners with a dilemma. On the one hand, there are ample chances to catch some sun and enjoy clear skies. On the other hand, the famous Houston heat can make spending too long outdoors unbearable. What’s the best solution? Plenty of homeowners are choosing to add shaded outdoor spaces to their backyards, allowing them to enjoy fresh air without getting sunburned. Let’s take a look at a few possible ideas for backyard shade!
Even during the hottest part of Houston summers, adequate sun protection goes a long way toward providing comfort outside. Why not block the sun with a custom patio cover or pergola? Not only will you have immediate sun protection, but your new shade structure will provide a sheltered area all year round for future gatherings! Check out these common backyard shade ideas:
1) Patio Covers
If you already have a patio or are planning to add one soon, your best choice might be a patio cover. These shade structures match your house and can even be attached to the house if you so choose. They provide excellent shade and essentially give you an outdoor living room or dining area with open walls.
Pro Tip: A patio cover is the perfect finishing touch to an outdoor kitchen! Cook and host outdoors whenever you want, rain or shine.
Pergolas are large shaded structures similar to a patio cover at first glance. However, their design is rather different. Instead of solid pillars and a shingled roof, pergolas boast a more cagelike appearance, designed to support climbing plants. Pergolas also don’t have solid rooftops like patio covers. While they still block out the worst of the sun without completely leaving you in darkness, pergolas won’t keep you from getting a bit wet during a storm.
For anyone with a smaller backyard or simply a smaller space to turn into an outdoor room, an arbor may be the way to go. Think of an arbor like a smaller pergola, designed to hold climbing plants and let in some sun while still providing a good amount of shade. Arbors don’t tend to cover a lot of space, so they’re best used for a smaller hangout spot like a reading nook or to cover a garden bench.
Don’t Miss Out on Sunny Days!
Houston’s infamous summer heat may make time in the sun a little uncomfortable, but don’t let the heat chase you indoors all summer! A shaded outdoor space allows you to enjoy fresh air and sunshine without exposing yourself to scorching heat or heavy summer rain. Get in touch with our team to see which style is best for you.
The current outbreak of the coronavirus has left many people uncertain and worried about the future. Many Houston businesses are closing and ceasing most or all of their services.
Creekstone’s response to the pandemic is slightly different. We plan to remain open, but we are taking every necessary precaution to protect both our employees and our valued clients. Here’s how we’re doing both.
Like many businesses, we’ve moved most of our employees to work from home for the foreseeable future. Only a few essential staff members are staffing our physical location. We’re very careful to keep our store sanitized at all times and are washing our hands frequently to protect ourselves and any visitors.
Curbside Pickup & Delivery
We don’t want to keep our customers waiting for their orders and, to the best of our ability, we’d like to continue helping you have a sense of normalcy with your families during this time. Consequently, we’ve implemented two programs to keep your purchases on time. As of March 28, we’re offering the following services to our clients:
Free curbside pickup from our store location, regardless of the size of your order
Free same-day delivery for orders over $50 placed before 12 pm and within 10 miles of our store location
We hope that these options allow us to continue providing you with excellent products while also helping you and your loved ones maintain proper social distancing.
Pro Tip: Coronavirus is not believed to be airborne, so spending time outdoors is safe as long as you continue to observe social distancing and proper handwashing.
As we wait for updates from the CDC and continue monitoring the ongoing situation, the most important thing to remember is that we can get through this. Practicing social distancing and careful hygiene will do wonders to protect you from getting sick. In the meantime, we hope to help you maintain a sense of hope and normalcy as you wait for this to pass.

We consider what went well and look for opportunities for growth. With that in mind, here’s a look at 2019 with Creekstone Outdoor Living!
Earlier this spring, we celebrated the introduction of our pool design service. From custom slides to rock waterfalls, our customers have been able to design backyard pools to match their style. We’ve received an awesome amount of positive feedback and look forward to building more pools in 2020.
In Houston, backyard design has become one of our favorite pastimes. Each customer’s personalized outdoor kitchen or patio cover has added a special touch to their beautiful landscapes. In more ways than one, our team has loved the opportunities to transform each backyard into their family’s favorite hangout spot.
As real estate continues to skyrocket and more people move to our state, your home’s value is determined by more than you think. This year, we’ve noticed that it’s becoming increasingly important for homeowners to keep their houses up to date with the latest trends. By installing the backyard upgrades and improving your curb appeal, you could increase the value of your home exponentially.
